Gerd Böckmann was born on January 11th 1944 in Chemnitz, and grew up in Münster. Today he lives in Vienna. He graduated from the Otto-Falckenberg School in Munich. He then received his first role at the Theater der Stadt Heidelberg. Over Lübeck, Böckmann came to the State Theaters of Berlin, and further stations were the Thalia Theater in Hamburg and the Deutsche Schauspielhaus. In 1977, Böckmann came to the famous Viennese Burgtheater, where he was a member of the ensemble until 1986, and again from 1999 onwards as an actor and director. In addition, he has had many guest appearances as an actor, for example at the Bavarian Staatsschauspiel in Munich and the Schauspielhaus in Zurich. He has gone on tour numerous times, and has repeatedly appeared at the Salzburg Festival. In addition to acting, Gerd Böckmann also works as a director. At the Staatstheater Stuttgart, he directed the German-language premiere of David Mamet's "Edmond," as well as Thomas Bernhard's "Theatermacher." Gerd Böckmann became enormously popular with his television and movie roles beginning in the 1960s.
